The Environmental Research Institute (ERI) is an established and growing research centre situated in the town of Thurso in the northern Highlands of Scotland. It is part of the North Highland College, one of the partners in the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), Scotland’s newest and most distinctive university. The ERI has a rapidly evolving research profile and provides a high quality, dynamic research environment. We are now seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Analytical Chemist to join our growing team. The position will involve a varied and engaging set of responsibilities related to our portfolio of environmental and analytical chemistry work. It will include support of research projects (particularly in ‘Environmental Contamination and Ecological Health’ and ‘Carbon, Water and Climate’), commercial analysis (mainly water quality and targeted organic compound analysis), and teaching (postgraduate student support and undergraduate demonstrating).
The successful candidate will be based at the ERI’s Castle Street site in Thurso, which hosts three large well-equipped laboratories with an extensive range of instruments and equipment including GC-MS (with TD), GC-FID/TCD, LC-MS/MS systems, LC-FLD, UV/Vis spectrometer, ICP-OES, Seal AQ2 discrete analyser, Shimadzu TOC-L DOC analyser and SEM-EDX.
We seek candidates with proven laboratory experience (including GC-MS and/or LC-MS/MS analysis); a commitment to laboratory-based work with an eye for detail, and effective communication skills.
