Integrated Land Use Conference 2019

Last week, ERI students and staff Derek Elsby, Iain Detrey, Henk Pieter Sterk and Chris Marshall helped out during the Integrated Land Use Conference 2019, held in Carrbridge from 20 – 22 March. During the three day event, students – including gamekeepers, environmental research and forestry – from the University of the Highlands and Islands, were brought together to listen to a variety of interesting talks that fitted the theme ‘Conflict Management’.

Like previous editions, guest speakers and field talks provided the necessary context for the students’ projects, for which our ERI facilitators were asked to help out with, guiding the students towards presenting their own ‘conflict scenario’ on hot topics related to the uplands of Scotland. An Camas Mor, Cairngorm mountain/Glen Mohr lodge and Curr Wood were selected as appropriate locations to have an in-depth discussion about durable and all-inclusive land use, past and future management and dialogue between local stakeholders.

At the end of the conference, Dr. Roxane Andersen attended to help out with the jury for the best and most innovative presentation: providing feedback to the conference attendees.
